The Oscar-nominated star wore her gamine fringe, which falls about an inch above her brows, paired with a lovely, full high bun styled by Alyx Liu—a hairstyle that has become one of her signature go-tos during the Wicked era, both for the first film and the second. She’s worn similar bangs before, including during last awards season, so it’s clear that she loves the Hepburn-esque look, one that is reminiscent of the iconic actor’s hair in movies like Sabrina and Roman Holiday.
The bangs aren’t the only update to Grande’s Wicked: For Good red carpet oeuvre. She’s also back to brunette, and it’s not just about going back to her roots—it’s an intentional nod to what Glinda goes through in the second film.
“We’re a lighter brown now,” the star explained to Entertainment Tonight. “It’s fun to play with the storytelling on a press tour. With the first press tour, I kind of wanted to celebrate Glinda in a more on-the-nose way. And, now, I can kind of show up as the actress that played her and play into the darker tones of the movie.” And luckily for us, we don’t have much longer to wait to see what those “darker tones” are, because Wicked: For Good premieres on November 21! While it’ll be bittersweet to say goodbye to blonde, Glinda-fied Ariana, there’s so much more to look forward to from the booked and busy actor and singer.
