There’s no debate: The Met Gala is the biggest fashion night of the year. Say the words “first Monday in May” within a few feet of any fashionista and watch their ears perk up. (It’s adorable—try it.) But no attention-grabbing Met Gala look is complete without its beauty elements. In fact—brace for hot take—sometimes the hair, makeup, and nails are more noteworthy than the attire. So while we’re as excited as everyone else to see how attendees adhere to this year’s dress code, we’re especially interested in how the celebrity glam teams have worked their magic.
Speaking of the dress code, it’s “Tailored for You,” which refers to the Costume Institute’s spring 2025 exhibition, “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style.” It delves into the different aspects of Black dandy style, which is truly much more than just a style—it’s a sartorial movement with layers of historical and cultural importance stretching over the course of the Black history.
So, who will be there? As always, Anna Wintour chairs the Met Gala, and this year’s co-chairs are Colman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, A$AP Rocky, and Pharrell Williams, plus LeBron James as an honorary chair). There’s also a host committee, made up of André 3000, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, Jordan Casteel, Dapper Dan, Doechii, Ayo Edebiri, Edward Enninful, Jeremy O. Harris, Branden Jacobs-Jenkins, Rashid Johnson, Spike Lee and Tonya Lewis Lee, Audra McDonald, Janelle Monáe, Jeremy Pope, Angel Reese, Sha’Carri Richardson, Tyla, Usher, and Kara Walker.
But that list only scratches the surface of who we get to watch walk up the stairs into the Metropolitan Museum of Art in their interpretive ensembles. Here are the stars whose makeup artists, hairstylists, and manicurists deserve just as much praise as their stylists.
